 In our world, sexual roles are commonly defined by genders -- male or female or other, by sexualities -- gay or straight, bi or asexual or in-between. But what if they were defined by something else entirely?

Alpha/Beta/Omegaverse is a fusion of fanfiction tropes and animalistic behavior. In this world, sexual roles are divided into three categories: the Alphas (the dominant, the protective and the aggressive), the Betas (ordinary humans) and the Omegas (submissive, fertile and able to carry children).

ROLES:
1 - The Alpha.
* Stereotypically type A personalities.
* Anatomically: Males have a penis; females may have a penis in addition to a vagina.
* Alphas knot their mates, meaning that the base of the penis swells and locks them inside their mate while they produce copious amounts of semen in an effort to breed.
* Strong sense of smell.
* Near an Omega in heat, they experience a compulsion to mate that is almost impossible to overcome.
* Alphas may go into rut, which is their equivalent of Omega heat, and drives them to mate.

2 - The Beta.
* Ordinary human being.
* Males have penises; females have vaginas.
* Can mate to anyone.
* Might be able to smell hormones of Omegas and Alphas, but will not be overwhelmingly affected by them.

3 - The Omega.
* Stereotypically submissive, quiet, intelligent and less physically able.
* Regularly go into heat, which involves being overcome by the urge to mate. They are unable to consent while in heat.
* May be made compliant by a bite to the neck. However, that may also induce a mating bond.
* Often regarded as second-class citizens or prizes to be won.

SITUATIONS:
1 - Bonding - Love at first sight. You've spotted your soulmate. You can smell them, you can feel them, you know that they'll be with you until the end of your days. Unless there's something between the two of you. It could be age - maybe one of you has to wait until the other has reached maturity. It could be that the bond is one-sided, and the other has yet to fall in love. It could be an unwanted bond, or society could have divided you into different places. Is your love strong enough to conquer?

2 - Heat/Rut - The need is coming on you strong. Everyone for a half-mile around can smell it. Better find someone to ride it out with, or hole yourself up in a room with a few bottles of water and a durable sex toy. And you'd better hope that there isn't someone out there who will take advantage of your pliable state. Best case scenario, there might be a Beta who can take care of you, or fend off anyone too predatory.

3 - Pregnancy - Whether through a heat or not, you're pregnant. Congratulations - or condolences. Is it time to start a family, or time to start panicking?

4 - Suppressants - You're using suppressants to keep yourself on an even hormone cycle, skipping heats, or maybe pretending to pass as a different class of society. After all, Omegas might want to be in the military, where they're not usually allowed - or an Alpha might want to take a job in a university or as a nurse. Shouldn't they be allowed to, if their hormones are suppressed? Just hope that you don't miss a dose.

5 - Mistaken Identity - That friend that you always thought was an Alpha, or an Omega, or a neutral Beta, turns out to be something entirely different, and your world is turned absolutely upside down. Does it challenge your preconceptions? Or does it just ruin the balance between you two?

6 - Unlikely Pairs - After all, there's no actual reason that Alphas have to mate with Omegas. Maybe two Omegas can satisfy each other. Or two Alphas. Or your intended mate could easily be a Beta. Maybe this is just about breaking out of your pre-established role and becoming something new.

7 - Manifestation - In some cases, an individual may not know they are Omega, Beta or Alpha until their first heat/rut/manifestation, usually happening in early teen years. It may take you by surprise; it may be a blessing, or may be a deep disappointment.

8 - Other - Adventures in getting jobs, making families, fighting bad guys, and anything else you can come up with!

[Well shit. See, this was why X-Factor was all alphas and betas, to prevent this sort of issue inthe field. They needed to be able to work, to always be able to work, and to be able to hold their own in situations where they had to deal with pushy human alphas. But Omega-Level mutants and Omega almost always went hand in hand. There were exceptions, and in a population so small it probably spoke to it not being a hard and fast rule, but still, great power was a complication sometimes.]

There are more than a few factors that can lead to an early cycle, and you know it. The question is what we do about this.

[The most logical course is to tell Jean-Paul 'fuck it come get us' in this blizzard. Which could get them hurt. And the instincts that the scent around Quentin was forcing to the forefront of David's mind said that was bad idea. Other alphas was a bad idea.

David forced that thought down.]

Knock me out. You're more than skilled enough at that. We can't do anything about your body, but you can put me under a sleep deep enough to give you relative privacy.

[ ruthless, he shuts down as much of the parts of his brain that govern his omega physiology as he safely can, giving himself a little extra time to focus, to think this through. david's right that he can knock him out and keep him under, at least for a while. but if he's running the shield, too, it's going to be tricky once his heat really gets underway.

and the longer he goes without help, without satisfaction, the more his instincts will take over, and he may just wake david anyway. and it's not going to just go away. not without help or a lot longer than he suspects they have. ]

My heats aren't short, [ he admits, reluctant, worried. ] They can last all day even with an alpha. And without one-- [ the thought alone exhausts him. he's going to be dehydrated, in pain, and there's still the issue of the fire, which will have to be tended to.

he rubs his palms over the tops of his thighs, flinching as he realizes how sensitive he is. being this close, in an enclosed space with an alpha is not helping stave off his heat. ] .. I can keep you out for a while, anyway, if you want to try it. [ maybe they'll get lucky. ]

[David's known longer heats than that, but it isn't his right to share other people's details with Quire. But he's not wrong. It's going to be an issue, the storm is going to take a while to blow out. Until then they're stuck. David rises and backs away, needs to pace, needs to get away from that smell.]

This is about what you need, Quire. I can, probably, keep myself under control for a while. I just... None of my training really covered this.

[ yeah, no shit, he almost spits out, instinct to lash out when he's backed into a corner, whether it's on purpose or not. but it's not going to help if he's a dick, no matter how tempting it is.

he needs to make this bearable for both of them. they're trapped here, this is fucking happening whether either of them want it (neither of them do), so he just needs to.. deal with it. ]

It's about you, too, [ he grits out, curling his arms around himself, glancing to the fire. ] It'll be over a lot quicker if I have an alpha, but if you hate the idea, I'll knock you out and try to keep you out.

[There is something decidedly impolite about this whole situation probably the fact that it’s sorta a ‘I need someone and you’ll do’ situation. Okay it is a lot more than that but he is clinging to that one.]

he briefly considers just walking out into the snow. freezing to death would be unpleasant, but at least he wouldn't have this responsibility looming over him. he suspects alleyne would find it an extreme response, though.

his jaw works, and he finally, reluctantly, glances back up, breathing carefully and trying not to focus on david's.. alphaness. fuck. ]

But none of it is from first hand experience. Which might be surprising for a guy not-so-secretly seeing an omega speedster on and off.]

[ he shifts from foot to foot, uncomfortable, mouth flat. ] You have something like half a foot and fifty pounds on me, and I get really sick of getting hurt during my heats. [ that sounded a little dramatic. it's not all the time, obviously, but it's happened in the past, either with an inexperienced alpha or--once, memorably--one who figured quentin's heat was an optimal time to teach him a lesson. but if it sounds a little dramatic, maybe david will realize he's taking it really seriously.

but it has to be uncomfortable for him, too. quentin is not the person he's sure david would like to be doing this with, so.. he shouldn't be so short with him, at least. maybe act like this isn't some kind of chore.

he softens his body language, uncurling his arms and dropping them to the side, the scowl smoothing away from his expression. ] .. I know this isn't.. ideal, and I know you kinda' hate me, but.. I have it on good authority that I'm a pretty good lay, especially during my heat.

[Hurt? During his heats? David can’t help the growl that bubbles up from him at that news. Yeah, some thing were already defaulting to instinct, but fuck if fully conscious David didn’t agree with the more primal reaction.

But he swears in that moment he will do all he can to not be like those others. And maybe to find out who they are and fuck with their finances. For karmic retribution. Hacking is a good hobby sometimes.

For now he steps forward, nervous, a hand coming up to touch one of Quentin’s arms.]

You’re an arrogant, self important, conceited asshole who seems to delight in pissing me off, just like every other male telekinetic I’ve ever known. Yes, I can hardly stand you. It would give me no end of pleasure to kick your ass in a fair fight of one kind or another some day.

But I’m also dead here without your help. And even before that, you’re a person, and the specific ways I can be an asshole still don’t keep me from taking care of people. So trust me, first time or not, I’ve got more years of experience in me than any alpha you’ve met, more reason to keep you safe and happy, and every reason not to make either of us miserable. [ he twitches at the growl, not entirely sure how to interpret it, though his body is pretty sure it likes it if the wetness between his thighs is any indication. he sucks in a breath, trying to focus through the low burn of arousal. what's worse is he knows david can smell him, smell how much he wants this. ]

You're never going to be able to kick my ass, [ he says shakily, because he can't just leave it unaddressed. although given how hard it is to keep his voice steady and keep from leaning toward the alpha, maybe he should have left it for afterward, when he can dangle david from one foot a hundred feet in the air and remind him that just because quentin's an omega doesn't make him any less an omega-level.

[ he hesitates, then reaches up to the closures on his uniform, pulling it open at the throat and chest. ] I should.. get out of this before I get any worse.

[Oh, he can smell it. And damn it's so good. He wants to move closer, he wants to bury his face in Gar's neck to smell him. He wants to reach out and pull Quire close and smell him and smell the way it built up as he touched the guy. Which is a lot.]

[The scent, and the first bit of skin bared has him hungry. David moves forward before he can really stop himself. His hands moved as well, coming up to the closures to help with them. But hey, he's not ripping them at all.]

[ he goes still as david helps with his uniform, shrugging it off his shoulders, then shifting to work it down off his hips with his underwear. he toes out of his boots, stepping out of the uniform a moment later. it leaves him nude and already clearly turned on, shivering from a combination of need and the still-chilly air.

finally, he reaches, his own palms sliding over david's waist, skimming up to palm his ribs through his own uniform. ] I wanna' start out on your lap. [ he tugs at the other man's uniform with his tk, beginning to pull it open, suddenly very invested in getting him naked. ]

[Saying anything but his last name would be too intimate, in David’s opinion. But he did pull Quentin fully against him. Telekinesis meant that even being close would probably leave Quentin more than capable of stripping him. Bedsides, he would be lying if he claimed he never thought about how those lips, so good at crafting insults, might feel. Guess he got to test it now with a hard kiss.]
